One Small Word

As I have spent the last year writing and re-writing my thoughts and ideas about adultism and creating new parenting paradigms, I am struck by the presence of a tiny word that is beginning to create discomfort for me.

“my”

I have been thinking deeply about how I can communicate the process I am undergoing while I continue to let go of more and more of my socialization. I realize that I must go back and purge that one small word from my vocabulary when it is paired with “son,” “child” or “children.”

I do not own them. They are not mine. The words we choose are a reflection of our internal state of mind. The cleaning must continue and the journey goes forward.
